3D TV trails would be conducted across four content delivery platforms – and possibly involving local broadcasters and telcos. The inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG) happening in Singapore this August is being eyed to showcase the 3D technology. According to Yeo Chun Cheng, MDA’s chief information officer, the YOG is a good opportunity to promote 3D technology. Producing and broadcasting sporting events in 3D has long been considered by industry players as a good reason to invest in new innovative or immersive technology – as it will greatly enhance the viewing experience of sport fans. At the end of 2009, telco TV subscribers reached 34 million worldwide. Western Europe still has the largest number of subscribers on a regional basis, though more subscribers are being added each year in Asia.
